Under assigned supervision of the Emergency Services Coordinator, the Crisis Clinician provides a variety of clinical services to mental health and/or substance abuse clients, including crisis intervention, clinical case management services, consultation and education services to area schools, agencies and the community at large. This position is responsible for the collection and oversight of dispositions, follow-up referral verifications and interfacing with other NKHS departments in order to better serve client needs when in crisis.

DUTIES

Emergency Clinical Services: evaluation and assessment of the individual in crisis and current circumstances, crisis counseling, screening for hospitalizations, level of care determination, risk assessment, referral and follow-up.

  • Telephone screening and counseling.
  • Court screenings.
  • Covers after hours emergency services as deemed appropriate.
  • Coordinates services within NKHS and with other agencies and providers as needed.
  • May provide specialized assessment/screening services based on professional concentration and training.
  • Provides consultation and Education Services to community at large, area agencies, the professional community and/or schools as required. Consultation can be educational or evaluative in nature. Specific area of consultation/education are based on clinician's areas of expertise or interest. Provides liaison services between two sponsoring agencies so as to coordinate services to clients.
  • Provides Clinical Case Management and Social Support on an as needed basis. Services may include service coordination with other agencies and services; collateral contacts with other family members or significant others in client's life; telephone support to clients or collaterals; social support services for location, developing, or providing care services; or treatment planning session.
  • Coordinates with client's psychiatrist (if applicable) and other medical providers, both within and outside agency.
  • Clinical Record-Keeping. Initiates and maintains in a timely and thorough manner the wide variety of record keeping and administrative documentation required to account for our service to clients. Such work includes, but is not limited to, client-specific assessment, case services, and progress notes, time sheets, and schedules.
  • Coordinates with client's insurance carrier for service authorization/utilization review purposes, providing information required for such purposes within agency confidentiality guidelines.
  • Provides documentation as needed in legal proceedings and appears in court as required.
  • Clinical Team Meetings. Attends and actively participates in the necessary clinical meetings designed to inform, problem solve, and coordinate services and program.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor that may be necessary to meet the needs of individuals/couples/families served.
QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of mental health that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in social work, psychology, social welfare or other relevant social sciences (including credits in areas of mental health or child welfare, as appropriate to position responsibilities) (1-2 years experience) and at least one year's experience dealing with acute psychiatric assessment and dispositions.

Experience in provision of public or private social work, clinical services, mental health, developmental services and/or substance abuse preferred.

Must possess the ability to effectively interface with a wide range of medical and professional clinicians in hospital/clinic settings and be detail focused for the purposes of accurate and timely documentation and adherence to Federal, State, and Agency standards.

Eligibility for licensure in a field of professional mental health service provision (e.g. CADC/LADC or LICSW, LCMHC) strongly desired.
