Summary of Essential Functions:

Serves as a patient care team member by performing assigned clerical processes including but not limited to: Collects data from physicians office for scheduling, registering future patients.

Required to be knowledgeable of hospital policies concerning all admissions and registrations.

Must be fully versed in all aspects and functions of the admitting/registration/business office requirements.

Expedites and facilitates the efficient admission/registration process and provides systematic and courteous service.

Required to be knowledgeable of required legal forms and obtain mandated forms.
Educational Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Clerical skills and medical terminology preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with medical and technical personnel.

Demonstrate patience, tact, diplomacy and persistence in daily contact with patients, physicians and their staff, visitors, and all hospital personnel.

Must be able to prioritize work according to written or verbal instructions using organizational skills and sound judgment.

Ability to type forty (40) wpm for computer data entry ensuring correct spelling and grammar.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Answer telephone according to hospital policy in a courteous manner expressing a greeting to the caller and identifying self and department.

Schedules patients for all procedures using the hospital system according to established procedures.

Accepts reservations from physicians office in a professional and courteous manner. Record date, time and individual communicated with.

Works cooperatively with physician offices and departments in the hospital.

Courteously performs patient pre-registration duties, include obtaining limited demographics and insurance information Data/information is accurate and complete.

Communicate appropriate instructions to patients.

Check Medical Necessity on assigned scheduled procedures for Medicare patients. Follow departmental process established for ABNs.

Review schedule to ensure that an appropriate time is available and ensure all information is accurate.

Spells and use medical terminology accurately.

Ensure procedures requiring authorization prior to scheduling is obtained.

Anticipates conflicts in scheduling examinations, notifying management for assistance.

Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
