The Alternative Format Specialist promotes equitable access to University curriculum and educational opportunities for students with disabilities. Incumbent supports students, faculty, and CAE staff with providing accessible course materials in various alternative file formats using general and specialized software and equipment. In addition to direct student and faculty support, incumbent provides document accessibility training and guidance to CAE staff to ensure content is accessible for students with print disabilities.

Working knowledge and proficiency in the utilization of alternative format related software (e.g., screen readers, text to speech software, optical character recognition, cloud drives, accessibility checker tools, various alt media editing software) and other equipment (e.g., general and specialized scanners and printers)

Working knowledge and proficiency in the alternative format conversion process and common resources for acquiring alt media.

Ability to determine accessibility and compatibility between alternate media files and students' electronic devices, such as PCs, Macs, and tablets.

Ability to edit, create, and/or procure various file formats, such as PDF, KES, Word Doc, Google Docs, PPT, Google Slides, HTML, MathML, LaTeX, braille, tactile graphics, EPUB, MP3/MP4.
