A Day In The Life of a Metal Finisher / Blender

As a Metal Finisher / Blender , you will be able to learn and run various hand tools effectively and efficiently continuously while identifying any problems, positioning Aerospace workpieces, and inspecting parts daily. Your work can be repetitive yet requires continuous focus on detail. You will also perform required benching operations with a hand grinder, part inspection, machine preparation, cleaning, and performing preventive maintenance and minor adjustments on the assigned equipment; prepares various logs and records to document machine operation and daily production; move/transports parts to the appropriate location as needed; maintains safe, clean and orderly work areas; receives, reviews, and /or refers to various records; and interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and other shop personnel.

Essential Duties of The Metal Finisher / Blender

  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of in-process and finished components, subassemblies, and products;
  • Provide input for inspection methods and improvements related to the job;
  • Assist Quality and Engineering in investigations of process-related quality issues;
  • Write non-conforming materials reports when required and be familiar with the process of quarantining products that have been rejected by QA;
  • Provide samples and communication to QA and Production Management concerning quality issues when required;
  • Organizes work and storage areas for efficient workflow and to showcase the quality of work in the facility;
  • Uses statistical analysis to determine the correct sampling plan/frequency to ensure valid inspection plans;
  • Completes accurate records in order to provide excellent results and improvements. Records include inspection reports, training records, equipment maintenance logs, and corrective action reports;
  • Develop and improve standard work to support both customer and supplier inspections, including quotes, understanding customer expectations, and results reporting;
  • Understanding and knowledge of the use of basic inspection tools;
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills;
  • Detail-oriented, able to stay on task, and self-motivated; Conduct internal department audits;
  • Be compliant with safety procedures and policies
  • Other duties as assigned and requested in support of the position and their needs;
Qualifications:
  • Ability to interpret technical data and drawings.
  • Push/pull items that could weigh up to 50 lbs.
  • Maintain excellent attendance record.
  • Must be able to work in a grinding booth and wear necessary PPE.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Require safe, organized, and clean work areas.
  • Proficient with the English language to interpret and follow various technical data.
Education/Experience :
  • High school diploma or GED
